How to Check Your Timing Belt

Most modern vehicles are equipped with a timing belt. This small component is an important part of your engine. Essentially, it synchronizes the valves and pistons to make sure that things are running smoothly. It's important to keep this piece in good condition. You can easily check on it if you know what to look for.

The timing belt has a unique appearance that sets it apart from the numerous other belts under the hood. On one side, it is flat. However, the underside features prominent teeth that are used to grip onto the camshaft and crankshaft gears. When you're inspecting the belt, look out for tears and other forms of physical damage. The most common issue is fraying. The edges may start to look worn. If that's the case, take your car to a professional as soon as possible to get it replaced.

We here at Hugh White Honda have the knowledge and experience to provide you with reliable automotive service. We'll replace your belt with a new model that lasts.
